Civil War Education Day

Civil War Education Day

Fri, October 17, 2014

10 am - 4 pm

Spend the day off from school with Historic Fort Snelling and explore the fascinating story of Minnesota and the Civil War! Fort Snelling closed in 1858, but the attack on Fort Sumter in 1861 spurred thousands of Minnesotans to join the Union cause.  The Fort reopened and became the entry and training point for more than 24,000 Minnesota volunteers who fought in the Civil War.  Learn about soldier life, period technology, the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, and the history of slavery in Minnesota. Family-friendly activities throughout the fort help bring the 1860s to life!

$6 per person / $5 for MHS members
