Sat, August 18, 2012 - Sun, August 19, 2012
10 am - 5 pm (both days)
Transport yourself back into the 1860s and explore Fort Snelling's Civil War history. In this special Civil War Sesquicentennial event, check out interactive learning stations about the fort's important role in the debate over slavery, the lives of Minnesota's soldiers and civilians, and much more! Costumed staff and reenactors bring the fort to life with musket and cannon firings, 1860s cooking, and demonstrations of life in 1860s Minnesota.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, and over the weekend special programs will focus on this pivotal and painful moment in the history of the Dakota people and Minnesota.
