Field Trips For Schools & Home Schools

Historic Fort Snelling Living History Tours

Spring Tours: April - June
Fall Tours: September - November
Cost: $5 per student/adult ($50 minimum)
Length: Approx. 90 min. total

* Historic Fort Snelling will close for construction in Fall 2012 and will re-open for tours in Spring 2013.

Living History Tours are available every Spring and Fall at Historic Fort Snelling. Tours begin every 10 minutes and last approx. 90 minutes. All tours start at the Visitor Center and continue throughout the historic fort. Students will meet costumed guides dressed as soldiers, laundresses, and others who will engage them in a variety of interactive learning stations around the site. Check out Field Trip Highlights to see what happens during a tour.

Make sure to schedule a time for your class to watch the BRAND-NEW 15-minute film Where the Waters Meet: Stories of Fort Snelling, in the Visitors Center either before or after your tour of the historic site. This film will help orient students and provide an overview of the fort's rich and complex history.

Extra time should be allowed during your visit to climb the Round Tower and visit the Guardhouse inside the historic fort, as well as to experience History Under the Floorboards, a multi-media exhibit about archeology at Fort Snelling located in the fort's Officers' Quarters.

Groups may also visit the Museum Store in the Visitor Center, where their purchases help support Historic Fort Snelling's educational programs.
